Part hotel, part members club, part blue-chip bar, Soho House is such a go-to hangout for celebrity creatives that the establishment bans photography in its locations to protect privacy. In today’s Instagram-obsessed era, that’s only made the place seem more interesting—and it’s likely you’ve seen at least a few surreptitiously snapped shots of some of its interiors, designed by design legends like Ilse Crawford, Tom Dixon, and Martin Brudnizki (or perhaps just a sly shot of the rooftop pool at Dumbo House).
Now, the legendary club, which boasts locations in the coolest neighborhoods in the likes of of New York, London (the White City House there is pictured above), Miami, and Mumbai, is making it a little easier to get the look of its chic houses—thanks to a home line launched this week.
The Soho Home collection, which comprises furniture, lighting, textiles, and accessories, (and ranges in price from around $20 for table linens to tens of thousands for sofas) brings some of the club’s most admired design elements to the masses—or, at the very least, outside the carefully monitored doors of its clubhouses.
“Years in the making, the collection was born from Soho House members’ desire to take home the House interiors they love so much,” explains the company’s creative director, Siobahn Farley. “Members would always ask Soho House & Co. founder Nick Jones where they could find the items from around the Houses—including everything from the Barwell crystal to the sofa they sat on. How can they recreate the ‘Soho House look’ for their own home?”
Since the interiors of each Soho House vary as widely as their geographical locations, the collection comprises a wide range of styles. “The inspiration comes from the Houses, each one integrating with the culture of each location, creating something that is localized and designed for that specific site or city,” Farley says. “In Istanbul, we introduced a lot of Turkish fabrics via ottomans and tapestries in the bedrooms, whilst in Amsterdam the bedspread design is inspired by the silhouettes of the canal-side properties, and the throws in the bedrooms take their cue from the original stained glass windows within the building.”
In addition to the furnishings, the company is also offering a selection of art by artists whose work appears in Soho House locations. Soho Home Editions, Farley says, “was in response to a growing appetite for accessing and purchasing art, featuring works by artists; Alice Browne, Archie Proudfoot, Danny Augustine, Jack Burton, Paul Davies, Scarlett Bowman, Eliza Hopewell, Aimee Parrot.”
Ultimately, the line is meant to enable customers to take home a bit of the style they may have admired in a hotel stay, a bar visit, or just the myth of the famous Soho House. “Soho House has created Houses around the world that have a ‘home from home’ feel,” says Farley. “Those who have experienced a stay at a Soho House, or a meal with friends in one of the clubs, want to recreate these memories and experiences in their own home as an extension of that.”
