When photographer Gray Malin and his husband Jeff Richardson found out that they were expecting twins, they knew exactly who to enlist for decorating advice: longtime friend (and House Beautiful Next Wave alum) Amy Berry, a Dallas-based designer known for creating children’s spaces that blend classic charm with playful, modern elements.

What started as a double nursery project soon expanded when Berry discovered a small, unused room on the lower level of the couple’s Los Angeles home, right outside the pool. “For me, it was a no-brainer to turn it into a playroom!” says Berry. “I have two very little kids, so I know how great it is having a space downstairs where their toys can be contained—not to mention an extra changing table.”
